Stroke Numbers

Numbers

830,000 People in North America will have a stroke over the next 12 months.

Someone you know or perhaps yourself has just had a stroke and you're looking for answers.

First off with those numbers you now know you're not alone. So what do you do now?

Lots.

Who's Who

Doctors stabilize the survivor and predict long term outcomes.

Therapists work with the survivor getting them ready for going home or into long term care.

Social worker can provide support groups for survivors and caregivers.

The Caregivers job is to provide encouragement.

At the top of the list is the most important job held by the survivor themselves and that is deciding whether or not to get better.

Two States

There are two basic states the survivor can be in. First is the worst, being unaware of what's happening and unresponsive.

The second is aware but restricted in movement or communication to the outside world. This second state is what can be worked with no matter how devastating at first it looks.

Too Much Info

With all the information coming at you it's easy to get deflated and accept what seems to be the inevitable. There will be this restriction or that. What you or your loved one can no longer do all leading to getting use to the world having changed for good or is that for no good?

Wouldn't it be nice to talk to someone who's be through it. Not just a caregiver but a survivor who's thriving.

Someone who not only didn't listen to all the restrictions but broke all the rules coming back from the edge of his own death to back to work and no one can tell who doesn't know about it.

I Had a Stroke

My book is the insiders view of a real stroke. A story not to gain sympathy but to encourage and motivate by practical example. Each chapter outlines a challenge I faced on my journey back to good health.

This is the Primer caregivers and survivors need to know right off the start. Problem solving and attitude to win every challenge.

Over the years since my stroke I've been told time and time again, the information in my story is so valuable it should be in a book so now it is.

Numbers Again

Over the next 12 months 830,000 people in North America will have a stroke and 60% will be left an impairment which is 498,000 people. At least 5% will buy this book because they're highly motivated to get better. That's 24,900 people who really want to get better.

So what group are you in? The 24,900 or the 473,100?
